Rayleigh type behavior of the Young’s modulus of unpoled ferroelectric ceramics and its dependence on temperature

چکیده
The dependence on stress of the low frequency Young’s modulus and mechanical losses of unpoled ferroelectric ceramics has been studied as a function of temperature. The Young’s modulus of unpoled Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 ~PZT! showed a Rayleigh type dependence, analogous to the one already described for the longitudinal piezoelectric coefficient. This has been associated to ferroelectric/ ferroelastic domain wall movements across, and their pinning/depinning on, randomly distributed defects. The Rayleigh coefficient was found to increase with temperature. The activation energy of the Rayleigh process was obtained, which must be related to the pinning energy. The Young’s modulus of Mn doped 0.65Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 – 0.35PbTiO3 showed no stress dependence. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1614414#

Modeling of Fracture in Ferroelastic Ceramics
Ferroelectric ceramics are used in applications ranging from actuators and sensors to ultrasonic motors. A significant shortcoming of these materials in structural applications is their inherent brittleness. Specifically, most ferroelectrics have fracture toughness levels on the order of KIc MPa m = 1 . The characteristic of ferroelectric ceramics that makes them useful as smart materials is th...
متن کاملMICROSTRUCTURAL EFFECTS ON THE PHASE TRANSITIONS AND THE THERMAL EVOLUTION OF ELASTIC AND PIEZOELECTRIC PROPERTIES IN HIGHLY DENSE, SUBMICRON-STRUCTURED NaNbO3 CERAMICS
The dielectric, piezoelectric and elastic coefficients, as well as the electromechanical coupling factors, of NaNbO3 submicron-structured ceramics have been obtained by an automatic iterative method from impedance measurements at resonance. Poled thin disks were measured from room temperature up to the depoling one, close to 300oC. Dielectric thermal behaviour was determined also for unpoled ce...
متن کاملA model for estimation of stress-dependent deformation modulus of rock mass
Deformation modulus of rock mass has a significant role in the support design of an underground excavation. It is determined by expensive in-situ tests or by empirical models. Existing models for estimation of deformation modulus do not consider its stress dependence. Herein, data from several sources is used to develop a stress- (depth-) dependent relation for estimation of deformation modulus...
متن کاملX-Ray Analysis and Dielectric Characterization of Bismuth Layered (Bi2O3) (Baxfe1-Xo3) Nanocrystalline Ceramic
Polycrystalline ceramics of bismuth layered structure of (Bi2O3)(BaxFe1-xO3) (0.2x0.8, x is in step of 0.2) have been prepared by conventional solid-state reaction method to study its modified dielectric and electrical properties. X-ray diffraction technique is used on the powdered samples for physical characterization and an average grain size of 16 – 21 nm was obtained. The XRD analysis rev...
متن کاملInvestigation the Effect of Niobium Oxide Additive on the Dielectric Properties of Bismuth Titanate
Bismuth titanate ceramic has been attracted as a lead-free ferroelectric due to its high Curie temperature in high temperature applications as well as high frequency applications. In this study, the effect of niobium oxide as an additive on the microstructure and dielectric properties of bismuth titanate ceramic was investigated. For this purpose, niobium oxide was added to bismuth titanate, sy...
